This is The End of the Innocence

Atty General Mukasey in a statement to the San Fransisco Appeals Court:

“Specific information demonstrating that the alleged dragnet has not occurred cannot be disclosed on the public record without causing exceptional harm to national security,” Mukasey wrote in a federal court filing in San Francisco. “However, because there was no such alleged content-dragnet, no provider participated in that alleged activity.”

I’ve tried to come up with a more clear way to illustrate how illogical this statement is, but I can’t.  There’s just no precedent.  These guys have twisted the system so completely that they have created a class of perverse logic all their own.  I don’t think this injustice will ever be righted.  Moreover I don’t think it even could be righted, short of rearchitecting the communications backbone of the entire digital world.

We can safely assume that ALL communications are now monitored, or monitorable.  What we don’t know is who’s listening, what they do with the information, and who knows this operation even exists.

Posit this for a moment:  A government non-entity, call it the RBC, has the ability to monitor all communications, then leverages that information, say knowledge of financial trading details, to enrich itself.  The entity no longer requires ongoing funding to survive.  Secondly, the entity has no legal oversight from any government branch or agency – so it essentially does not exist.  Third, it fully understands the black ops infrastructure and can leverage it to inject it’s own agendas – so it has force projection capabilities.  Now say that agency was controlled by forces that saw democracy as a weak insitution not worth preserving.  How scared would that make you?

Welcome to Cheney Co.  A fully functioning shadow government funded by institutionalized embezzlement.  No term limits, no checks to power, and access to all the worlds communication pipes – civilian and military.   But wait there’s more!  Thanks to a decade of outsourcing funded by the US Tax Payer, Cheney Co. even has it’s own military installations and strike troops.   Hell, they’ve even got a couple of mid-class nuclear subs just for good measure!

It’s a living beast.  It’s truly the dark side.  I think you get the picture.

I feel really sick.
